Fire Extinguisher Commissioning

What does the law say about fire extinguisher commissioning?

The Regulatory (Fire Safety) Reform Order 2005 requires businesses to carry out Fire Risk Assessments and to install fire extinguishers following a range of guidance documents including BSI standards relating to extinguishers. BS5306 requires the commissioning of extinguishers for businesses ONSITE. That means by a competent installer at your premises. Pre-commissioning is specifically not allowed. If it is the first time extinguishers are installed at your premises, we recommend that you order commissioning and installation. Our engineer will then also wall hand your extinguishers in the correct place.
If you choose our commissioning service one of our BAFE certified engineers will commission your fire extinguishers at your site, label them and issue a certificate in accordance with BS5306. The extinguishers will be shipped when the order is placed and commissioning of the extinguishers will be carried out within 28 days from the date of your order.

This is a cost-efficient option if you are a business and you are replacing existing fire extinguishers with the wall brackets already in place. This option is also suitable if you are purchasing fire extinguisher stands to site the extinguishers instead of having the fire extinguishers hung on the wall.

We also offer to responsibly dispose of any old extinguishers for £2.50 + VAT per extinguisher.
